On tour with a friend and his luxury van

The name of my offering describes it well. What I have to offer goes well beyond what you can expect from an ordinary tour and driver guide. When you study the many reviews I have received from my guests over the years, it becomes clear that I am passionate about what I do. I go one – or sometimes several – extra miles to make sure my clients have an extraordinary experience by going on tour with a friend in Heidelberg.

I am a Heidelberger with significant life and professional experience. After various stages of my former career in Germany and the United States, I returned to Heidelberg and found my true destiny when I was in my mid-50s – as an absolutely passionate tour and driver guide.

Heidelberg and its Neighborhood

Heidelberg, the epitome of German romance with its world-famous Heidelberg Castle and the picturesque old town district, attracts well over ten million visitors every year. But there is much more to see and do in the town and in its vicinity. Right outside of Heidelberg is the tranquil Neckar Valley with its castles, fortresses, and quaint little towns. Schwetzingen Palace Gardens, one of the masterpieces of European garden art, is less than ten miles away.

Speyer and the Palatinate Region

Half an hour from Heidelberg lies the city of Speyer with its cathedral, one of the most important artistic monuments of the Holy Roman Empire and one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture in Europe. A little bit further to the west lies the haven for wine lovers, the Palatinate, where Riesling prevails, but where many other varieties of wine are produced, as well. For a good reason, the Palatinate’s nickname is Tuscany of Germany, and the friendly people there are happy to showcase their traditional cuisine as well as their delicious wines.

Black Forest and Baden-Baden

One hour south of Heidelberg lies the legendary Black Forest, a picture-book retreat with green hills in the midst of breathtaking scenery. On the way to the Black Forest, lies Baden-Baden, one of the eleven UNESCO’s Great Spa Towns of Europe. Stopping in Baden-Baden is almost a must, for in addition to spas, Baden-Baden contains a beautiful old town, a renowned casino, and exclusive shopping options.

Upper Middle Rhine Valley and Rothenburg

Sixty-five miles northwest of Heidelberg lies the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, also called Rhine Gorge characterized by vine-covered steep slopes and impressive rocky outcrops with hilltop castles overlooking the renowned Rhine River. Last but not least, two hours east of Heidelberg you will find famous Rothenburg ob der Tauber. With its historic old town and half-timbered houses, it is a symbol of medieval Germany and a step back in time.

Other Destinations

This list is just a selection of possible destinations. I often travel to places where my guests once lived or were stationed when they served in the military. When we explore areas where ancestors of my guests once lived, we also travel to a wide variety of places in southwest Germany. If guests wish to visit other places, I am more than happy to accompany them as well.

Luxury Van

A van is the most practical vehicle for going on tour. My luxury van offers space for five passengers and comes with a number of amenities like a leather interior and four captain’s chairs in the back. If your group is larger than five, I can always rent a bigger vehicle.
